Growth in beauty sector

Internationally, last year was a tough one for prestige and luxury beauty companies but new financial results show things are on the way back up.

In Europe and the US, companies including Estee Lauder, Elizabeth Arden and LVMH have announced that the final quarter of 2009 showed marked signs of recovery led by improved sales from the Christmas and holiday period.

A report from CosmeticsDesign-Europe says Estee Lauder have announced sales climbed almost 11 per cent in the last quarter of 09 while LVMH’s perfume and cosmetics division reported 2 per cent sales growth despite an overall 4 per cent drop in sales for the full year.

The recovery is a trend that has been mirrored in Australia with the latest data from bU Australasia stating that half of the top 10 make-up brands managed positive growth in value terms in the same three-month period.
