NZ: What natural beauty products are women buying?

Be Media has announced interesting findings from their NZ Natural Beauty Survey. The survey analysed womens' purchasing patterns and preferences with regards to buying natural beauty products.

Women who had previously purchased natural products were surveyed and the results showed:

  • 90 per cent said they have also purchased natural skincare
  • 80 per cent a natural soap or body wash
  • 64 per cent have opted for natural hair care products
  • 63 per cent have bought a natural deodorant
  • 60 per cent have chosen natural make-up products over unnatural
  • 34 per cent have purchased a natural fragrance.

It seems a large majority of New Zealand women are opting for natural in most facets of their beauty regimen, except for fragrance – showing conflicting principles when it comes to keeping it natural.

Be Media Director Sheryl Blythen says, “Women are ignoring the toxic load many commercial fragrances can put on their bodies, according to the survey.”

Debbie Cope, the founder of New Zealand natural fragrance company Purity Fragrances says, “While it’s fantastic to see Kiwi women embracing natural beauty products, it’s concerning that the dangers posed by some fragrances are not well understood. Your skin is your largest organ and what you put on it, goes into your bloodstream”.

Many fragrances found on New Zealand shelves contain chemicals such as synthetic compounds derived from petrochemicals. Some of these compounds cause sensitivities, allergic reactions and disrupt hormone balance.

Cope launched a range of New Zealand-made, all-natural, essential oil-based eau de toilette sprays because she is passionate about helping women avoid toxins and stay well.
