Tried & tested: Brightening beauty

Whether you have sun damage, pigmentation, or just want a serious highlight, brightening products can help with a multitude of beauty needs; and this week, the BD team put highlighters and brightening serums to the test.

EDITOR’S PICK: Swisse Blood Orange Brightening Facial Serum - Georgie

What it is: A facial serum to brighten the skin’s appearance and is ideal for uneven skin tones and excess pigmentation.
My experience: After hearing from Swisse ambassador Ashley Hart that this was her favourite product I was eager to try it. I’m big into using vitamins on my skin – vit C and vit A being favourites – and this serum didn’t disappoint. It smells authentically like Blood Orange but isn’t too pungent and the consistency is light and fast-absorbing. In terms of efficiency, it lives up to what’s written on the packaging especially when it comes to evening skin tone and reducing pigmentation. A small patch of sun damage on my forehead has definitely lightened. People with sensitive skin should use with caution however as the product is quite strong and stings ever so slightly upon application. All in all an excellent product, one that Swisse fans will most definitely love.

Gigi Hadid for Maybelline Liquid Strobe - Zoe

What it is: A multi-use liquid strobing cream
My experience: I couldn’t wait to try the hotly-anticipated Gigi Hadid x Maybelline New York collaboration, and this strobing cream doesn’t disappoint. I love that it can be blended with primer or foundation for a subtle glow, or dabbed onto cheekbones for a strong, golden highlight.

Luma On The Glow Highlighter in Bronze Voyage - Caitlin

What it is: A highlighter stick in a bronzer shimmer hue.
My experience: Part-highlighter and part-bronzer, this creamy stick was easy to apply and blend, creating a natural-looking shimmer along my cheekbones. I even applied it on my eyelids as an eyeshadow, and it worked really well.

Goodness Be Bright Chia serum - Laura

What it is: A serum that assists in brightening and plumping the face.
My experience: I definitely noticed a difference in my skin after using Goodness’ Be Bright Chia Serum. I applied the vegan-friendly product all over my face in the morning and evening after cleansing. It left my skin feeling soft and more hydrated while also giving me a seriously radiant glow. This one's a keeper!

MitoQ Crystal Brightening and Skin Correcting serum - Tash

What it is: A night serum designed to diminish the visible appearance of dark spots and pigmentation as well as nourish the skin.
My experience: This serum has taken my skin care to a whole new level. Enriched with MitoQ’s coenzymeQ10 it works to support collagen and elastin at the cellular level. This serum has evened out my complexion without compromising its hydration or texture. My stubborn pigmentation has faded and my skin is brighter and clearer.
