This new UV patch can measure sun exposure

The latest development in UV protection isn’t a cream or a miracle drug, it’s a small, wearable patch that links up with your smartphone and allows the user to measure and monitor UV exposure.

My UV Patch by La Roche-Posay is the first-of-its kind. A stretchable, electronic, transparent adhesive that can be applied directly to any area of the skin, it measures approximately one square inch in area, and is half the thickness of an average strand of hair. The patch contains photosensitive dyes which change colour when exposed to UV rays to indicate varying levels of sun exposure.

The totally waterproof patch will tell users when they need to re-apply sunscreen, or get out of the sun all together. Upon using the free app, you'll be asked to create a user profile choosing your skin tone and type, hair and eye colour and skin type and your favourite sunblock preference.

Once the app has created your profile, scan the patch to receive customised feedback for your skin, as well as reminders when it's time to reapply your sunscreen.

While the patch is unavailable for purchase yet, you can join the wait list here.
