Traveller, published across The Sydney Morning Herald, The Age, Brisbane Times and WAToday, has today announced the appointment of Justine Cullen as its new editorial and strategy director.
Cullen will lead the editorial vision for Traveller as it accelerates into a dynamic multi-platform offering, deepening subscriber engagement and driving innovative commercial partnerships.
She will oversee content strategy across digital, social, video, audio and events, doubling down on Traveller’s expertise and human-led storytelling and expanding on the success of its biannual gloss magazine editions.
"Justine is a visionary editor and strategist who knows how to build culturally resonant media brands," said Nine's head of life – lifestyle, travel & culture, Julia Naughton.
"As we look to the next decade of growth, Justine’s expertise will be instrumental in ensuring Traveller remains the premier destination for travel inspiration, while broadening our reach across all platforms."
Cullen was previously editor-in-chief of InStyle Australia and chief creative officer of True North Media. Prior to that, she was the founding editor-in-chief at ELLE Australia.
"I’m so thrilled to share that today I started a new role as editorial and strategy director of Traveller at the SMH and The Age," Cullen shared via Instagram.
"This might come as a surprise to some, but travel has always been my one true love. It’s the glue that holds my marriage together. It’s my primary parenting philosophy. That particular thrill of discovering somewhere and immediately wanting to tell everyone about it is pretty much my entire personality. So, dream job."
"I’ve also spent much of my career thinking about what comes next, and it’s clear that experience, discovery and connection are becoming an ever bigger part of how we spend our time, money and attention. Travel – right at the intersection of culture, design, food, fashion, wellness, people, place – sits more at the heart of the cultural conversation than ever."
"There’s already so much to love at Traveller. But there’s also an enormous opportunity to make travel media feel fresher, more culturally relevant and more surprising – and hopefully to give new audiences a reason to pack a bag," she said.
Traveller has a combined audience of 1.9 million across digital, print and social platforms.
Cullen will be based in the Sydney newsroom and officially commenced her role on 24th August.
