Winners of Sustainable Beauty Awards 2016

Considering the growing interest in sustainability and the environment, it’s no surprise that the Sustainable Beauty Awards continues to gain momentum worldwide. With an intention to “give recognition to operators who are pushing the boundaries of sustainability in the beauty industry” the rewards returned for 2016 – among the winners were a handful of homegrown heroes and beauty giants alike. The Paris-based event recently took place with 100 entries from around the globe. The winners were determined by a jury comprised of an ethical brand, ingredient firm, retailer, industry organisation, media, and research agency.

Weleda took the top prize in Green Formulations with its Evening Primrose Body and Face Care Range. Runner-up was homegrown hero thanks to the line’s premium range of certified organic ingredients. Brazil’s Boticario Group took the Sustainable Packaging title thanks to 70 per cent of its Cuide-Se Bem range being transformed into green polyethylene packaging. This is helping the business save more than 90 tonnes of plastic per year. Runner-up was Germany’s Speick Naturkosmetik.

The L’Oréal Group won the Sustainable Ingredient award for its use of quinoa husk. TRI-K Industries with Baobab Tein NPNF® was the runner-up. Philippine company Human Nature (Gandang Kalikasan) was named winner of social entrepreneurship. The company creates employment for impoverished communities, creating cosmetics from locally sourced ingredients. Weleda was named runner-up for its ‘Diversity Wins!’ program which assists refugees.

As for sustainability leadership, Weleda was crowned as a result of its range of sustainability initiatives, with Croda International as runner-up.
