bd GUEST BLOG: December 16

What I'm thankful for

The end of the year, a time to celebrate and reflect. Reflect on all the events than transpired this year, the ups and down. Though to be honest, it’s been a very up” year for me, mainly due to the wonderful people in the beauty industry that have opened their events and marketing plans to my fellow blogging and online-writing colleagues.

This year alone I think I’ve clocked more events than in my last three years blogging about beauty, so I have to take the time out to say a quick thank you to all the PR and marketing people who I’ve worked with this year. I do have to highlight the efforts of Maxted Thomas, Polkadot PR and Estée Lauder for putting together some rather luxurious experiences for myself and other online writers and bloggers alike this year.

What did they do?

Well Maxted Thomas spoiled us rotten in July with a blogger event where we were able to sample all of their wonderful clients’ products and speak to their respective experts. We learnt about the new suncare products by NIVEA, got manicures by Orly, played with Trilogy products, were given makeovers at Benefit and so much more. We left with bags of products to go home to play with and review – all in a bloggers days work right?

More recently the hair accessory brand Scunci held a bloggers lunch, where we got to meet the local importer and have the team demonstrate their range of hair accessories. Who knew there was a line of bobby pins that won’t move after you slip it in your hair? Amazing!

And last but certainly not least was the online media dinner at the Park Hyatt. There was no hard sell about how their products are amazing – their reputation pretty much speaks for itself – we were there to meet with the Estée Lauder communications team who gave us some brand history and enthralled us with fascinating stories about meeting Tom Peacheaux, and what the inside of Mrs Lauder’s apartment was like. But what I was most excited about was the news that they had launched an Australian Facebook page and had a new face to announce in the new year. Oh and the Tom Ford lipstick in our goody bags – the packaging is divine, I want one in every colour! (It’s already on my Christmas & birthday wish lists.)

Though my side project iBlogFashion & Beauty I’ve often told PR and marketing people there is nothing like meeting them and hearing their personal experiences and thoughts on the brand. Sure they have to love the brand, but you can’t fake enthusiasm. And these guys had it in spades.

So thanks to everyone who introduced me and my fellow online media girls and guys to your brands. What’s next for 2011?
