Tried & tested: Winter fragrance

Sydney is heating up, but Winter is far from over. This week the BD team tried and tested fragrances for the cooler months.

Jo Malone Pomegranate Noir  – Georgie
What it is: Ruby-rich juices of pomegranate, raspberry and plum are spiked with pink pepper and laced with Casablanca lily and spicy woods. Dark and enigmatic.
My experience: To me, Pomegranate Noir is a bit of a cult fragrance. I remember when it first came out in the UK and every single girl in my London office was completely obsessed and doused in it everyday. It’s forever reminded me of winter nights in London, going for mulled wine after work and walking past a Christmassy Selfridges on the way home. So evocative! But that’s what fragrance is all about, right? This really is a warm, luxurious but comforting scent and one that I think really captures the magic of winter. It’ll always be such a fave of mine.

Philosophy Grace – Grace
What it is:  An eau de toilette that is inspired by the strength and agility of a ballerina. The notes begin with delicate rose that is balanced with a hint of fruit, vibrant and sparkling lychee, peony and sheer pink musk.
My experience: I absolutely love this scent. I have found that I am starting to gravitate towards fragrances that aren’t as harsh and just have that light and clean smell so I was so excited to give this one a try. This is honestly exactly what I have been looking for and is now my new favourite perfume, I can’t seem to get enough of it! I recommend this for anyone who wants am everyday fragrance that leaves you feeling sophisticated and fresh.

Paco Rabanne Olympea Aqua – Issy
What it is: a fragrance that efreshes your person with aquatic notes in the foreground, feminine and vivid.
My experience:  Bergamot from Calabria and petit grand leaf give a lift of freshness to the opening notes while keeping the signature salty vanilla accord. This was a beautiful scent, combined with the right hues for winter, including notes of Jasmine, Sandalwood and ginger. It’s a powerful fragrance that only requires a few small spritz that wears for the whole day.

Elizabeth Arden White Tea – Rach
What it is: A fragrance that captures the purity and simplicity of White Tea.
My experience: I really love how this perfume sits on my skin and develops throughout the day. The top notes of Italian mandarin, clary sage essence, sea breeze accord and Japanese white fern are prominent when first spritzed, then I find it settles into a woody, musky scent - a perfect Winter fragrance, and definitely comparable to sweet White Tea. I love that both the scent and white bottle exudes simplicity and femininity.

MOR Rosa Noir – Tiarne
What it is: Hypnotic rays of Rose, Carnation and Lily of the Valley lay upon velvety notes of Sandalwood, Musk and Tonka Bean to create a seductive floral fragrance.
My experience: I loved this scent from the moment I sprayed it! It is certainly unique and I have never owned anything quite like it. I can mostly detect the rose, tonka and musk scents, with the other notes lingering pleasantly in the background. It’s not overly powerful, but the soft fragrance always lasts the entire day. I also love the spray nozzle; it is gentle and allows you to release as much or as little as you need.

La Femme Prada Intense – Zoe
What it is: an Eau de Parfum with a sultry, almost oriental quality, which exudes a heady sensuality.
My experience: This floral oriental opens with a very, very, very strong note of Ylang Ylang (but not too sharp!) and settles into a beautiful, heady scent with base notes of vanilla and iris. This fragrance is absolutely perfect for winter – it’s quite sensual and heavy but wears off during the day become soft and pretty. One quick spritz after work takes it right back to a powerful, floral oriental which garners plenty of compliments, too!
