bdBLOG: September 30

My skin has been breaking out more than usual lately and I want to know why.

While Ahava’s Matoyla Kollaras was here at bd HQ this week filming an interview with Janet for bdtv (watch out for it on Monday), she mentioned a few concerns that might explain what’s happening with my skin.

The first one is an issue that is becoming a more common concern – dry acne. Dry acne can be caused by a change in diet (women are eating less fatty acids) and mainly effects teenagers. Essential fatty acids are found in foods with Omega’s three, six and nine.

Skin sensitivities are also a common concern for a lot of men and women. But it’s not just a problem for people who are born with sensitive skin. Sensitivity can develop over time - the skin is a protective organ and if we push it too far it will have an immune reaction back. These reactions can be caused by the amount of chemicals used on the skin or even harsh treatments your skin might not need.

Vitamin D deficiency is also a worrying trend that Matoyla pointed out. The skin needs a certain amount sunlight, but we still need to make sure we protect it with a broad-spectrum sunscreen and good skincare containing anti-inflammatories and anti-oxidants.

For more detail on these trends keep an eye out for bd’s Interview with Matoyla Kollaras from Ahava on Monday.
