Charlotte Tilbury wins infringement battle

Charlotte Tilbury has won her infringement legal battle with discount retailer, Aldi, over a copycat makeup line.

The celebrity makeup artist first started legal action last December, accusing the chain of selling £6.99 private label dupes of her brand’s Filmstar Bronze & Glow palette, which retails for £49.

A High Court judge found that Aldi had infringed Charlotte Tilbury’s copyright and described the similarities between the embossed powder design and packaging as “substantial”.

The Tilbury version generated nearly £13m in sales since launching in 2013, and Judge John Linwood said, “Islestarrr [Charlotte Tilbury’s holding company] allege Aldi saw the success of the Filmstar palette and decided to copy features, so as to produce its own versions."
