Body care is an essential part of any beauty routine, and while the face is often the focus, it’s important not to overlook the body, treating it with the same care by switching up routines in the winter to reflect the changes in skin condition.
“Humidity levels drop in the winter months and the drier the air, the more moisture it sucks from your skin, so you’re more likely to experience dryness and flakiness,” said Ella Baché national training manager, Gina Cook.
Weleda naturopath, Liezel Barnard agrees. “Cold air cannot hold much moisture, so the ambient humidity is usually quite low,” said Barnard. “In addition, most indoor heating methods dry out the air even further, and we tend to use warmer water for showers and baths in winter, stripping moisture from the skin. Extra clothing also means more friction on the body that can lead to dryness and irritation.”
