Nails are no longer the forgotten nubs on the tops of our fingers but a burgeoning industry in their own right. Taking care of our fingertips is quite the hobby, with nail art popularity surging and natural nails succumbing to the talon-like claws adorned on nearly every LA-based celebrity.
Australian women are taking note of nail health importance, according to the results from beautyheaven’s mid-year survey. The study revealed that there is a rise in DIY nail maintenance, with 65 per cent of respondents preferring to do their nails themselves, with only 19 per cent visiting a salon regularly for nail care and colour.
Attributed to the DIY approach to nail care is a rise in the nail product category. Currently 42 per cent of respondents purchase nail products only annually, in comparison to 47 per cent who purchase nail care several times throughout the year.
Specifically, nail colour is purchased quarterly (by 31 per cent) or annually (at 34 per cent), though there is an impressive 19 per cent of respondents who purchase monthly, fortnightly or weekly.
Alongside an interest in nail experimentation is growing awareness of the importance of nail care and health. Products such as Revitanail are assisting in rejuvenating and nourishing nails that have seen damage as the result of a lifetime of acrylics. Find out more here.
