Glamazon acquired by leading global startup

Following seven years in the on-demand beauty market, Australian beauty app, Glamazon, has sold its business assets to home services startup, Urban Company, a leading global home services marketplace.

Co-founders, Lauren Silvers and Lisa Maree, saw Urban Company's expansion into the Australian market as an incredible opportunity for their users to have a broader reach across a wider variety of services. For Urban Company, the acquisition of Glamazon's business assets was an excellent opportunity to expand its scope of operations and consolidate its position in the Australian on-demand home services market.

“Urban Company and Glamazon have a completely aligned mission, to empower independent, mobile professionals to become entrepreneurs, enabling them to have successful freelancing careers,” Silvers said. “The synergies in our mission and vision were the catalyst to joining forces with Urban Company.”

Around the world, Urban Company connects end-users with trusted independent professionals and provides an array of premium personal services, from hair, makeup, spa and wellness services, to premium home services, such as cleaning, electricians, carpenters, plumbing, and pest control.

"Australia is an attractive market and holds great promise for Urban Company with its demographic advantages,” Urban Company co-founder, Abhiraj Bhal, said. “We believe that there is a huge opportunity for us to deliver a high quality service in home repairs and beauty services. We look forward to contributing to a healthy service ecosystem in Australia.”

Urban Company launched its Australian operations in November 2019 and currently offers home cleaning services via its mobile application and website. With the acquisition of Glamazon's business assets, Urban Company is for the first time in the Australian market, foraying into home-based beauty services.

Silvers is also thrilled to announce she will be leading the launch of Urban Company's beauty and wellness offerings in the Australian market, as Urban Company has a “vision to become a household name synonymous with quality in-home services by 2021.”
