P&G sustainability plan right on target

Procter & Gamble has published its 13th Annual Sustainability Report, which takes a look at the company’s progress with a five-year program developed in 2007 to reduce its carbon footprint.

According to Cosmetics Design, a major result coming out of the report is that they have achieved $US40 billion in sales of products developed using sustainable innovation, just $US10 billion off their goal for the end of 2012.

The five-year targets for waste, water-use and emissions have already been met, while goals for energy consumption and CO2 emissions are right on track.

The report showed energy consumption has decreased by 16 per cent over the first four years of the program, while CO2 emissions were reduced by 12 per cent.

The company has also reached 315 million children with its Live, Learn and Thrive program that is part of P&G’s commitment to social responsibility.

In September 2010, we announced a new long-term vision to guide our Company’s environmental efforts and establish expectations for our future performance,” says P&G’s vice president of global sustainability Len Sauers.

While we know we won’t reach this vision overnight, we hold ourselves accountable to making progress toward these targets on a daily basis and our achievements this past year speak to those efforts.”
