Say goodbye to Amazon international

In 2017 Australians spent an estimated A$24.2 billion online; but that number might drop now that Amazon is blocking Australian shoppers from accessing its international websites.

The move is in response the the Federal Government’s decision to charge overseas online retailers a ten per cent GST on any goods they sell under $1000.

Amazon said in a statement that it regretted any inconvenience caused to customers, and “had to assess the workability of the legislation as a global business with multiple international sites”.

Australians will be redirected to their new Australian store which has four million products. However Amazon US has 480 million.

Speaking on Amazon’s decision to withdraw its international site access for Australians, Treasurer Scott Morrison said: "I think it is disappointing that Amazon have taken this out on consumers in Australia but that is their commercial position.”
