With recent Audit Bureau of Circulation figures showing continuing declines in print sales across Fairfax and News Corp, there are reports Fairfax Media is preparing for another round of job cuts.
The redundancies would be across The Sydney Morning Herald, The Age and The Australian Financial Review, according to a Rear Window column in the The Australian Financial Review.
The cuts are slated to occur in the second half of 2015, and would follow on from the large job losses that occurred at the publishing house in 2012 and 2014.
"There’s a palpably sombre mood in the ranks of Fairfax Media’s editorial management as they prepare to implement yet another round of major cost-cutting in the news division that contains (what’s left of) The Australian Financial Review, The Sydney Morning Herald and The Age," writes Rear Window columnist Joe Aston.
In response, Fairfax has issued a statement saying: “There is no proposal, but we will always continue to look for efficiencies across the entire business.”
Mumbrella reports cuts are also underway in newsrooms of regional Fairfax papers.
