Yelena Fairfax launches Husskie

When Yelena Fairfax departed BEAUTYDIRECTORY recently she didn’t go far from the beauty world. The editor has unveiled her secret side project with her endeavour Husskie launching today. The lifestyle website focuses on the world’s inspirational – from the influencers to the entrepreneurs in every arena, from beauty to fashion and more. Fairfax spoke to BD about what audiences can expect from the debut below:

Can you tell us about the site?
Husskie is a fashion, beauty, and lifestyle news website that gives a glimpse into the lives, wardrobes, career secrets, and beauty cupboards of top influencers and inspirers. The website taps into a trend we’ve been noticing over the last few years – where people’s attention has been switching away from celebrities and on to influencers. Husskie puts these influencers front and centre.

What made you decide to launch it?
While we’ve seen many publications dip their toes into the world of influencers, there’s no one place on the internet where you can go to find a one-stop shop for all your influencer news and features. And it’s clear there is a desire for this information. Why else would brands be paying seven-figure deals for a blogger to promote their product? Why would magazines like Vogue and Harper’s BAZAAR be putting influencers on their covers? People are fascinated by the lives of influencers – they want to know everything about them. And that’s what Husskie is delivering. Husskie is a one-stop hub where people can discover not only the fashion, beauty and lifestyle habits of influencers, but also take a look at life behind the camera (or iPhone).

What sort of people will be featured on the site?
For the launch, we feature extended interviews with They All Hate Us fashion bloggers Elle Ferguson and Tash Sefton, Collective Hub founder Lisa Messenger, lifestyle influencer Li-Chi Pan, Gypsea Lust travel influencer Lauren Bullen, and junior surfing pro Isabella Nichols. We also have beauty how-tos from Michael Brown and Tobi Henney, as well as behind-the-scenes interviews and tips and tricks with fashion and beauty industry experts. Moving forward, we have some exciting interviews lined up with both influencers and inspirers – those women (and men) who have proven to be successful in their field, whether that be creatively, in business, or in sport. We will also be featuring up-and-coming influencers on the site who we believe are stand-outs.

Is there a story behind the name ‘Husskie’?
I wanted the name of the site to embody the idea of a tribe of people working together to empower each other; to learn from each other; and to grow with each other. And that’s when I thought of the name Husskie. I believe a husky dog sums up all these ideologies – and more.

What are you hoping to achieve with Husskie?
I feel like I sum this up best in my ‘About Us’ page on the website, but basically I want people to be able to come to Husskie to be inspired by the lives and careers of bloggers and field leaders, be influenced by their style and motivations, and be informed on their industry-insider tips and tricks. I hope you like it!
