How to get maximum exposure on Twitter

Ever wanted to know what it takes to get the most traction from your Twitter posts? Well… all you need to do is find a whole lot of Hollywood’s hottest stars and cram them all in together for a selfie. Easy, right?!

At Sunday night’s Oscars, Ellen DeGeneres managed to break Twitter re-tweet records after taking a selfie with the likes of Bradley Cooper, Jennifer Lawrence, Meryl Streep, Brad Pitt, Julia Roberts, Angelina Jolie, Channing Tatum and Kevin Spacey.

DeGeneres took less than an hour to knock US president Barack Obama from his perch as having the most re-tweeted post. The photo of Obama hugging wife Michelle after his re-election victory was re-tweeted 779,000 times. DeGeneres’ celebrity selfie received 634,000 re-tweets in just half an hour, and has currently had over 3.1 million retweets (at time of writing).

The amount of traffic hopping onto Twitter to check out the selfie was in fact so large that it overloaded the social media site’s servers, causing Twitter to crash temporarily. DeGeneres was even emailed by Twitter to alert that she had broken Twitter”.
