Stewart to front Balenciaga’s new scent

Given her indifference to fragrances in the past, Kristen Stewart says she was relieved she liked the smell of new women’s scent, Florabotanica, when she first smelt it. Quite the relief for Balenciaga too, given the actress is the face of the new scent.

I’m very lucky that I like the fragrance, because I would have done anything with [Balenciaga designer Nicolas Ghesquière],” says Stewart. And I’m a terrible liar."

Ghesquière worked on the fragrance Balenciaga Paris in 2010 and, according to WWD, says the brief for Florabotanica from fragrance licensee Coty Inc. was to select part of his fashion collection and gear it towards a young consumer. He chose a 2008 line which involved nice and nasty flowers.

It’s more narrative, kind of a fantasy,” says Ghesquière. So when I thought about the fragrance and the character that would visit that garden, I thought Kristen could be the perfect beauty and the perfect personality to represent that.”

For her part, Stewart is thrilled to be chosen to represent the Florabotanica and says it is mature” of her to enjoy the fragrance so much. There is something natural about it,” explained Stewart. It’s very alive. I think that as a young person wearing it — considering that I’ve never worn a scent — it kind of puts you on this level of, like, ‘Whoa, check me out.’ … I was never the one wearing my mom’s perfume and trying to be sexy. I was like hanging out with my brothers and doing the opposite of that.”
