It can be nerve-wracking buying beauty products over the net with concerns over the item’s authenticity, but consumers can breathe a little easier knowing a host of sites selling counterfeit products have been shut down.
On Tuesday, M.A.C Cosmetics and its parent company Estée Lauder Cos Inc won a $US90 million case in a New York against a ring of Chinese cybersquatters operating 112 web sites selling counterfeit M.A.C beauty products and cosmetics.
The infringing sites have been issued a permanent injunction, which will see the shut down of web sites including themaccosmetics.com, mac2wholesale.com, maccosmeticworld.com, wholesalemacmakeup.com and cheapmakeuppick.com.
We have a very strong connection with our consumers at M.A.C and have a responsibility and commitment to provide them with the finest quality and safe prestige makeup products,” a spokeswoman from M.A.C told WWD.
We take consumer safety very seriously. Counterfeit products claiming to be M.A.C cosmetics can be harmful to our consumers. We work closely with dedicated and diligent law enforcement agencies around the globe and participate in numerous counterfeiting enforcement efforts to help put a stop to counterfeit M.A.C products.”
