Instagram introduces "checkout" shopping feature

Instagram has just introduced a game-changing in-app "checkout" feature, which means US users will be able to buy products they love from a select amount of beta-testing brands without leaving the app.

According to the social media giant, the way it works is simple. People can tap to view a brand’s shopping post, and then a “checkout on Instagram” button will appear. Once that is selected, shoppers can choose from various options such as size or colour, and then proceed to payment.

Personal information such as name, email, billing information and shipping address only need to be entered at the first checkout. These details are then stored securely to make every other shop as convenient and simple as possible.

Additionally, the new feature sends notifications about shipment and delivery in the same way it does normal Instagram notifications – allowing people to easily track their products.

“Checkout on Instagram is currently in closed beta for businesses and available to people in the US,” Instagram said in a press release, adding that certain brands have already started rolling the feature out, with others set to follow over the coming weeks.

Some of the beauty brands participating include M.A.C Cosmetics, Anastasia Beverly Hills, ColourPop, Huda Beauty, KKW, Kylie Cosmetics, NARS and Ouai Hair.

Although "checkout" is currently only available in the U.S, BD will announce any updates in due course.
