Organic produce continues to grow in popularity for Kiwis, with a recent report from Organics Aotearoa New Zealand showing the New Zealand organic sector has experienced a 25 per cent growth over the past three years.
It’s not just food that consumers are turning to the organic sector for, with organic personal care and beauty products also growing in demand.
"Consumers are motivated to buy organics for a ‘total health’ experience including their personal health but also for the environment, animal welfare and social responsibility,” OANZ chairman Brendan Hoare told Voxy.co.nz. "The increased demand for certified organics amongst New Zealand and worldwide consumers has extended into skincare, body care and beauty products.”
Leading NZ organic certifier BioGro’s CEO Dr Michelle Glogau adds, "Demand for organics has grown rapidly over the last decade, driven by consumer concerns about what they put in their bodies. This has extended into what they put on their bodies - particularly when considering infants and young children. This is a reflection of what is happening in other parts of the world as organics mainstreams."
