Recreation Bondi Beach launches Australian-first packaging initiative

In an Australian first, Recreation Bondi Beach is set to launch a new eco-friendly premium packaging insert that is 100% sustainable.

As opposed to the insert of fragrance packaging, what is called the perfume mould, normally being made from unsustainable foam product, all of Recreation's packaging inserts are now made with bamboo pulp.

"We are so excited to be the first in the Australian market to use this new, sustainable packaging option and be a leader in the eco-luxury fragrance sector," said Recreation Bondi Beach founder, Nedahl Stelio.

Bamboo pulp is a more sustainable choice because:

- It grows fast – it can grow over 1m per day.

- It requires very little water to grow. With only 1% of the planet’s water usable, being water responsible is an important component of being sustainable, water is not an infinite resource.

- No harmful pesticides or fertilisers are used to encourage growth of bamboo.

- Bamboo releases 35% more oxygen (in comparison to an equivalent stand of trees), aiding in the reduction of air pollution and limited carbon in the atmosphere.

From an environmental perspective, foam is considered to be as bad, if not worse than plastic. Comprised of toxic chemicals, foam will take at least 500 years to biodegrade – if at all.

"RECREATION has never used foam, as this goes against the company's sustainable values, previously we have used a complicated cardboard-fold situation, which was effective however didn’t have the 'premium' appearance of a foam mould," said Stelio.

"As an eco-luxury fragrance brand, we wanted to ensure our customers were not only getting a premium fragrance product, but that packaging was also a luxury experience."
