The Body Shop to double Community Trade initiative

The Body Shop’s sourcing programme has set the goal of more than doubling the amount of community trade ingredients it uses in beauty products by 2020.

The programme was an industry first when The Body Shop launched it in 1987, and the new plan for growth is a part of the company’s bid to empower economically vulnerable producers from around the world by paying fair prices, offering price assurance, a long-term relationship and access to an international market.

Head of sustainable sourcing at The Body Shop, Will Stephens, told Cosmetic Business: “Community Trade is part of the DNA of The Body Shop and we would not be the business we are today without it. Community Trade is only going to grow in scale and impact. It is a prime example of how we can challenge industry norms and we are very proud of what has been achieved over the past 30 years. Here’s to 30 more years of this life-changing programme.”
