Hive HQ launches community event for up-and-coming publicists

HOSTED by Hive, the industry networking event founded by Hive’s Jessy Marshall, is returning after a hiatus following Marshall’s maternity leave, with a refreshed focus on early career and aspiring publicists.

The event series has been repositioned as a community-led forum designed to connect emerging talent with professionals across PR, media and communications.

Marshall said the relaunch was driven by demand she observed while recruiting for a new coordinator role.

"We hosted a number of industry events in 2023 and 2024 with speakers from news.com.au and the Australian Financial Review," she said.

"In 2025, while interviewing candidates, I noticed how many upcoming publicists were craving guidance and connection."

Marshall added that her team of 'bees' decided to pivot the format to spotlight Hive’s internal talent.

"We wanted to refresh HOSTED and create something that champions the 'bees' themselves, their experience, knowledge and how they actually work in the industry," she said.

"The night is about demystifying PR for those already in the space or looking to break in."

The first community event under the new format will take place on Tuesday, February 24th from 5:45pm, with food, drinks and a Q+A.

Marshall said the program is part of Hive’s longer-term strategy to pioneer a more open, community-driven model for agency growth, where education and access play a central role in up-and-coming talent.

Attendees can expect a buzzing evening of networking, conversation and insider tips and don’t be surprised if the highlights start trending across social.
