Hubert de Givenchy has passed away aged 91

French fashion designer Hubert de Givenchy passed away over the weekend, aged 91.

Givenchy founded the now infamous house of Givenchy in the 1950s, and counted the likes of Audrey Hepburn, Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis and Grace Kelly as friends and clients.

In a statement, the fashion house paid homage to its founder, saying he was "a major personality of the world of French haute couture and a gentleman who symbolised Parisian chic and elegance for more than half a century.

"He revolutionised international fashion with the timelessly stylish looks he created for Audrey Hepburn, his great friend and muse for over 40 years.

"His work remains as relevant today as it was then."

Givenchy was purchased by LVMH in 1988, with current LVMH CEO Bernard Arnault saying he was “deeply saddened” by Givenchy’s death.

Current Givenchy artistic director Clare Waight Keller said via Instagram that she was "deeply saddened by the loss of a great man and artist I have had the honour to meet.

"Not only was he one of the most influential fashion figures of our time, whose legacy still influences modern day dressing, but he also was one of the chicest most charming men I have ever met.”
