bdBLOG: Naomi Campbell settles fragrance dispute

What is it with perfume companies and celebrities suing each other?

First it was Britney Spears being sued by marketing company Brand Sense Partners for claims they were cut from the singer’s fragrance deal, now supermodel Naomi Campbell and perfume company Moodform Mission have finally settled a dispute that saw the two go head to head over a fragrance line.

The lawsuit saw Campbell accused of jipping Moodform Mission of its share of millions of dollars in profits from scents including Naomi Campbell, Cat Deluxe and Seductive Elixir, according to CBS News.

Campbell’s former modelling agent Carole White and a cosmetics company formed Moodform Mission in the 1990s and reportedly worked for years to line up a 1998 fragrance deal for Campbell.

The agreement called for regular payments to Moodform Mission when the scents hit the market in 2001, however, they claim Campbell violated the contract by signing a new fragrance-licensing agreement in 2008.

While the lawsuit alleges this new agreement was a fraudulent scheme organised by Campbell to avoid her obligations to Moodform Mission, the supermodel says she didn’t know White had a stake in the perfume partnership.

"If White had told me that she was a principal in [Moodform Mission], I would not have blindly trusted her advice to sign the documents that she brought to me,” says Campbell.

No details have been disclosed but the case was closed in Manhattan court late last week with Moodform Mission happy with the settlement”.

While it’s not the first time Naomi Campbell’s been in trouble with the law, I do detect a little bit of fishy business going on here…
