Younger generation have more skin damage than baby boomers

Australia still has a long way to go when it comes to sun protection, with SunSense finding the Silent Generation (age 61+) and Baby Boomers have less sun damages skin than Gens Y and X. The results are surprising, considering the intense sun-safety education efforts over the past 30 years.

The results comes at the conclusion of the SunSense yesterday, which came to an end after visiting 19 metro, coastal and regional locations throughout NSW, Queensland and Victoria.

Interestingly, people in coastal regions fared better than their country town counterparts in the SunSensibility stakes, scoring 54 per cent compared to an average score of 46 per cent in regional areas.

Perhaps most surprising of all though was the region with the best SunSensibility rating – Bondi Beach. By comparison, the region with the worst UV skin damage was Dubbo, with the lowest average score of 41 per cent.
