The Australian Magazine Awards 2015 have had a makeover. The industry showcase is set to return later this year, but will be far more digital than the traditional awards show media are used to.
Previously, winners were required to prove circulation growth and improvements in readership, advertising volume, front cover, editorial content and design. While these conditions remain, publications will also need to prove their worth on the digital front - across mobile, mobile and web apps and social media. Categories also no longer allow for automatic entry.
MEC Australia and New Zealand CEO James Hier says the changes were necessary to reflect the digital landscape. “After a slow start, we are seeing some good examples of [brands embracing technology] and the magazine brands that are leading the way should be celebrated and held up as examples of where the industry should be heading.
“The real innovation to come is going to be the new commercial models that address the different levels of engagement and the reach these distribution channels provide.”
