Benefit hires first brand ambassador with Down syndrome

Kate Grant is making headines after being announced as Benefit Cosmetics' first ever brand ambassador with Down syndrome.

The 20-year-old model from Ireland has been chosen to promote the new Roller Liner Eyeliner in the UK, a move which is helping pave the way for inclusivity in the beauty industry.

It all started when the beauty brand spotted her on social media. "We discovered Kate by chance in the summer of 2018 when we saw a Facebook video about her journey to becoming a model," a representative for Benefit told the Daily Mail. "We fell instantly in love with her."

After a post of Kate on Benefit's Instagram page was met with lots of love, they decided to bring Kate on board with the campaign, as she embodies everything Benefit stands for as a brand. They were drawn to her "amazing energy" and "incredible zest for life".

Kate's mum Deidre told Metro in an interview: "She is paving the way for people coming behind her. Kate is aware of that and wants to spread awareness about inclusion for people with disabilities and that is what she has done from the very start. She is aware that she is able to do that in a way some of her friends cannot. She is using her voice for them."

Social media users have commended Benefit for choosing her to represent the brand.

Kate has gained an impressive social media following the recent appointment, as well as after winning the Teen Ultimate Beauty of the World pageant in the UK in 2018.
