Budget beauty shock

On the back of the recent budget release, Invisalign has uncovered whether Australian women are really as aware of their spending habits as they should be. In a survey of over 1000 Australians, it was found women are spending 5 per cent of their total household income on their beauty regime, with 70 per cent of participants shocked by the results.

The average Australian woman is spending $3626 each year on beauty and grooming with Perth, Sydney and Adelaide women forking out the most cash. Perth is the highest spending city with women spending $4669 on their beauty regime. Sydney and Adelaide are close behind on $4387 and $4053 respectively.

Melbourne and Adelaide women are the most frugal when it comes to beauty spending, with Melbourne women dishing out an average $3772, and Brisbane the lowest on $2947.

Despite the large amount of money being spent on beauty each year, 80 per cent of women don’t tell their partner or family what they’re spending.

When it comes to what beauty categories they’re spending their money on, the study found 36 per cent is on skincare, 31 per cent on teeth, 19 per cent on hair, and 14 per cent is on their facial structure.
