On trial this week - July 20

Products the bd team tested (and loved) this week.

Ever since I owned my first polka dot bikini, I have become slightly obsessed with polka dots - so you can imagine my excitement when the new Marc Jacobs Dot arrived at bdHQ. I was instantly drawn in by the red and black polka dot print on the fragrance box and was certain that, being a Marc Jacobs fragrance, it would smell divine. When I first pulled the fragrance bottle out of the box, I couldn't help but sit and admire it. It wasn't just a slim, cylindrical shape - this bottle was like an art form. Large wings on either side of the bottle’s cap make up a large butterfly, while smaller butterflies made from wings and pearls adorn the bottom half of the bottle. On first spray, the fragrance smelt sweet and fruity on my skin. After time, the scent remained the same, yet mellowed to a subtler version. This is definitely a fragrance I would wear during summer thanks to its light, fruity aroma. I will admire this bottle on my bedside table till juice do us part! - Liz

Schick HydroSilk Razor

I’m a bit lazy when it comes to keeping my leg hairs in check. While I’m more diligent when in a relationship, my current single-status has seen me delaying the time between shaves to later and later. That being said, I’ve definitely lifted my game since receiving the Schick HydroSilk Razor. Promising an easy shave with its soft, ergonomic handle, in-built moisturising serum and design especially crafted to fit hard to reach areas, I no-longer groan at the realisation it’s time to give my legs the once over. And while I’m never going to be a leggy, leggy blonde – at least I’ll never again be a long-leg-haired blonde. - Yelena

Schwarzkopf Professional BC BONACURE Hairtherapy Color Freeze Spray Conditioner with Amino Cell Rebuild offers to detangle and smooth my hair while nourishing the cuticle layer and rebuilding damage from within. Hairtherapy Color Freeze Spray Conditioner is a leave-in product used on towel-dried hair in place of the traditional conditioner. After shampooing my hair, I shook the bottle to combine the two ingredient elements and begun spritzing it through my hair. My fingers slid easily through the tangles of my bleached balayage and I was immediately impressed. I then used the Thermo-Protect Cream from the BC BONACURE Hairtherapy range as I needed to dry my hair quickly. The thick, rich cream was absorbed immediately and didn’t leave any excess on my hands. After using the two products, my hair is smooth and sleek but voluminous and light and no tangles! I’ll definitely keep this in my bathroom for speedy hair washes. - Masaya

If you’re anything like me, you’ll know what it’s like to be constantly wishing your hair was tied up while always being without anything to tie it up with. My new favourite hair thingymajig are these Pin Twirls – I love them! Because I usually fashion a casual updo with a pencil (see aforementioned problem) or spend my time scrambling in the bottom of my handbag/desk/floor of car for a bunch of bobby pins, this simple metal device is a Godsend for me. It’s a spiral u-shape pin and to use it, you just twirl your hair into a bun, and then gently wind a pin down into your hair to keep it in place. Then to get it out, just unwind it the other way. Genius. The Pin Twirls come in a pack of three and you can use them all in one go, but I found even just one does the trick even though I have long hair.  - Michelle

and Coconut Foot Crème

As an elite female long-distance runner (often running 120km a week), the idea of having "sweet feet" is not something I would ever associate with myself. Rather, my feet are much more familiar with the likes of blisters, black nails, smelly odours and cracked heels. So when asked to review two of Burt's Bees new foot products claiming to "keep feet sweet", I felt sorry for the poor little Bees ... they most certainly had their work cut out for them! After a particularly punishing cross-country race, I decided to reward my feet by slathering on some Burt's Bees Peppermint Foot Lotion. Despite a thorough shower, the muddy course and old racing shoes had left my feet smelling less than ideal, however, they soon smelt peppermint fresh and the menthol definitely soothed some of the aches. After the success with the Peppermint Lotion, I was eager to try out the Coconut Foot Créme. Rubbing some into my cracked heels and blistered toes before popping on a pair of socks, I wasn't expecting miracles overnight. The next morning, however, did bring feet that (although not perfect) were significantly softer, more supple and less dry. I am now encouraged to give my feet a little more TLC. – Lara
