Products the bd team tested (and loved) this week.
After nominating our preferred colour at a Priceline event earlier this year, Models Prefer recently sent media its Human Hair Extensions in their chosen colour. I chose the Volume and Length in Blonde, which came in various different width pieces that were each 40cm in length. Each piece had a super easy clip-in system (similar to just putting a normal hair clip in your hair), with the attachment feeling comfortable against my head. The hair moulded so perfectly with mine that the girls in the office couldn't even tell which was my real hair and which were the extensions. Because the hair is real, it also felt exactly the same as my own hair so you couldn't even feel where the extensions were. I find that sometimes the synthetic hair extensions can weigh my hair down a bit and give a bit of a pull, but the Models Prefer is really light so you don't notice you're wearing extra hair (unless you look in the mirror). Another benefit of being real is that the extensions can be colour treated, heat styled and washed. Definitely a great investment for a glam event. - Yelena
Couleur Caramel Certified Organic Concealer
I'm prone to having at least one blemish on my face at any point in time, so concealer is my go-to product. I usually use liquid concealers on my spots and dark circles, but it was nice to try a concealer that wasn't liquid for a change. What I liked about the Couleur Caramel Certified Organic Concealer is that the product wasn't messy to apply, and because it is as easy as rubbing your finger over the cream in the pot, you never applied too much product. The concealer was light and silky on the skin but not oily so it didn’t leave a sheen. It’s finish was quite matte, and it really did cover all my dark spots and blemishes on my skin. My hair is naturally curly, some would even say frizzy... but this hair spray actually managed to tame my wild locks (cue gasp of surprise!). The spray locked in my curls while flattening the unflattering fuzz that goes hand in hand with my natural hair. I used it by sectioning my hair while damp and spraying the product at least 25 centimetres away from the head. My hair dried smooth and my curls remained intact without leaving a crunchy feel that other hair sprays sometimes do. The Aveda Curl Enhancing Hair Spray features a light citrus fragrance of lime, lemon, bergamot and orange, leaving my hair smelling fresh and clean. I will definitely be working this wonder spray into my everyday routine. - Maddie
I have quite dry skin, so am the first to get on board with a face oil. I’ve always been partial to rosehip oils, so was interested to see what this one from People for Plants had to offer. Super hydrating, the oil absorbs easily into skin and doesn’t leave any oily residue. I also find the scent of this oil to be more pleasant than some other rosehip oils I’ve tried. The perfect product to apply before bed, my skin still feels soft and hydrated when I wake up the next morning. It’s also 97 per cent certified organic, a massive plus in my book. - Lucy
When a skincare product promises to deliver results that are on par with a cosmetic procedure, anyone concerned with ageing skin would be nuts not to give it a go. So it was quite happily that I recently added the L’Oréal Paris Revitalift Laser X3 Day Cream, Laser X3 Serum, and the Laser X3 Eye Cream to my daily skincare routine. All three products feature L'Oréal Paris' patented Pro-Xylane, an active ingredient that helps along the regenerative process of the skin, as well as hyaluronic acid and hydroxy acid to hydrate and smooth the surface. I found the products were easily absorbed into my skin and despite layering all three, I still had a good, grease-free base for my make-up. I'm a long time fan of serums and I'd be happy to keep this one as part of my regular routine, and the eye cream's metal tip applicator gives a nice cooling sensation to the skin around the eyes which helps to reduce any puffiness. The trio of products gave me immediate results in terms of a hydrated and lifted appearance, so I can't wait to see the anti-ageing benefits I'll get from more long term use. - Michelle
