The new ground-breaking ingredient for pigmentation

A new ingredient has been identified as an effective treatment for pigmentation, discolouration and dark spots – and it’s a natural alternative.

Enter navy bean extract – the humble-sounding ingredient which, revealed in cutting-edge skin care research, has been shown to significantly improve uneven skin tone and blotchy brown spots.

Through a clinical study, Mary Kay found that topical application of moisturiser containing navy bean extract significantly helped the look of skin discolouration over 12 weeks, due to its ability to regulate melanogenesis (the process of producing melanin – or dark spots, in simple terms).

This news was revealed during the Skin of Color Society Symposium in the US recently, by Mary Kay’s Clinical Research, Associate Principal Scientist, Dr Shoná Burkes-Henderson.

A key ingredient in Mary Kay TimeWise® Tone-Correcting Serum is navy bean extract, shown to significantly improve skin brightness, improve skin tone, and reduce dark spots. It also contains niacinamide, a form of vitamin B3 widely known for its skin-brightening benefits.

Mary Kay has become known as a leading skincare innovator, and has also found a new approach to tackling facial redness.

The research team identified four botanical extracts proven to reduce the production of pro-inflammatory proteins and enzymes in the skin – both of which contribute to overly flushed skin or rosacea. A cosmetic formula containing these botanical extracts was tested, showing they effectively reduce redness after just 4 weeks.
