NZ: Kiwi salons encouraged to self-regulate

With more and more horror stories coming to light about hygiene in the beauty industry, consumers need to be mindful of the expectations of beauty salons in New Zealand, warns De Lux Salon owner Suzanne Edmonds.

Speaking to SunMedia, Edmonds says a two-pronged approach is going to be the best way to increase standards.

“Those using beauty salons should demand a high level of service, as it is this demand that will ultimately drive the change that is needed in some establishments. It is also up to individual salons to uphold this standard for the sake of the industry’s reputation as well as their own,” says Edmonds.

The salon owner encourages customers to question a salon’s cleanliness, and to speak up if the level of hygiene does not seem up to par. It is believed this feedback will help to lift the bar of the beauty industry.
