Trilogy encourages consumers to “beat the bead”

is calling for beauty consumers to stop using products with microbeads. As part of World Ocean Day on June 8, the environment-conscious brand has launched a campaign to “beat the bead”. The plastic particles found in many beauty exfoliants are harmful to marine life when they are washed down the sink and sent straight to the ocean. A step you can make towards protecting the ocean is to use effective natural alternatives to plastic microbeads.

We already know plastic is a problem in our oceans, but add microbeads and the problem intensifies. Trilogy’s in-house beauty expert, Corinne Morley, says these tiny beads are having a massive impact on marline life. In the beauty industry, microbeads are regarded as one of the most harmful polluters. According to scientists, an average bottle of face scrub can contain as much as 100,000 plastic beads.  A study found that around 35% of fish examined had microplastics in their stomachs. The seriousness of this problem has led to some countries taking action – the NZ government recently announced that cosmetic products containing microbeads will be banned in July 2018. This is a big step in the right direction, but globally progress still needs to be made.

Trilogy is dedicated to the cause and offers effective, nourishing ocean-safe exfoliants:

Gentle Facial Exfoliant is formulated with natural, biodegradable, non-abrasive jojoba wax microspheres, which gently polish the complexion, refining texture and improving clarity without irritating or compromising the skin’s natural barrier function.
Exfoliating Body Balm is a certified natural body polisher which leaves skin silky-smooth, hydrated and glowing. A rich blend of rosehip oil, sweet almond oil and beeswax nourishes, softens and protects skin, while the seed powder gently buffs and refines skin texture.
