La Roche-Posay unveils wearable skin sensor

L'Oréal owned La Roche-Posay has unveiled its latest beauty tech innovation at the CES (Consumer Electronic Show) in Las Vegas over the weekend.

My Skin Track pH is a sensor that can analyse the wearer's pH level and sweat loss to help assess skin health. The sensor is worn on the arm for 15 minutes and once the data is collected, it is sent to and analysed on an app. Customised La Roche-Posay product recommendations tailored to the specific skin pH are then made.

“PH is a leading indicator of skin health. It is something my patients ask about, but until now it has been very challenging to measure skin pH outside of a clinical setting. This tool has the potential to inspire consumers to adopt healthier skin-care habits and empower medical professionals with an entirely new way to recommend skin-care regimens," said La Roche-Posay dermatologist Dr. Thomas Luger.

While L'Oréal hopes to offer the device to consumers, the devleopment of the product has also served as an exercise in research for the La Roche-Posay team, according to WWD.

My Skin Track pH was named a 'Best of Innovation' winner in the Wearable Technology Products Category at CES.
