YouTube delivers counterblow to Instagram

Less than a week after its competitor Instagram launched IGTV, Google-owned YouTube has delivered a counterblow in the form of writer, editor and author, Derek Blasberg. The video-sharing website has appointed Blasberg as head of a new division that will specifically focus on fashion and beauty content partnerships.

Blasberg will be based in New York and tasked with cultivating relationships with brands and high-profile people in the two industries to encourage them to use the platform more often and more effectively, according to Business of Fashion. YouTube already has similar divisions in the news, sports, television and gaming industries.

“I'm looking forward to bridging the world of YouTube creators with the global style and beauty industries in this newly created role and department,” Blasberg said in a statement.

An experienced and well-connected personality, Blasberg was previously columnist and editor of Style.com, Harper's Bazaar US and other publications. He has left his role as host of CNN Style but will continue as contributing editor at Vanity Fair where he was appointed 'Our Man on the Street' in 2015.
