bdTrial: Flirting with fragrances

The bd team trial the latest fragrances to land in the beauty cupboard.

A perfumer, or a nose” as the French like to refer to them, is a rare person with an exceptionally good sense of smell. I am definitely not one of these noses”. I have a terrible sense of smell and find trying different perfumes overwhelming and, consequently, have only ever worn the one fragrance since I was 15 years old (I would be quite the embarrassment to the nose community). Then along came See By Chloe and that all changed. I LOVE this fragrance - it’s so subtle, creamy and feminine that I just can’t get enough of it. The perfume features top notes of bergamot, middle notes of apple blossom and jasmine and base notes of sandalwood and vanilla. It’s light enough to be worn everyday and consequently I have been doing so. I definitely think it will become my new signature scent. See By Chloe you have reinvigorated my love of fragrances. - Whitney

I am no Kirsten Stewart, but I would gladly be appointed ambassador to boast about this beautiful, modern fragrance. The packaging is state-of-the-art style, with the black and white striped cap and floral oriental pattern plastered brightly on the front of the bottle a perfect on-show dresser item. The contemporary fragrance itself features spicy top notes of pepper and citrus that are tempered by green, milky fig leaves. Middle notes of rose, green hyacinth and cardamom further compliment lush base notes of white wood and amber. The scent is fresh, graceful and beautifully modern. - Maddie

I’m no stranger to the Euphoria range by Calvin Klein, and being a devoted fan, I was excited to try this new juice. Housed in a sepia peachy rose coloured fan-shaped bottle, it sits elegantly on my dresser ready for its morning spritz. With its sweet yet seductive notes, the fragrance takes you on a journey starting with a burst of cherryblossom then leads you along its other notes of mandarin, violet and musk. This number feels light and fresh and is something I would wear through an entire day. It reminds me of flowers, fruits, flirtation and all things pretty. - Jocelyn

Traditionally I’ve headed straight for the fruity floral beachy scents when it comes to fragrance choices, but lately I’ve started leaning more towards woodier scents. The latest addition to my perfume wardrobe, Bulgaria Omnia India Garnet, is the ideal combination of both fruits, floral and wood. A modern tribute to India, the fragrance features top notes of mandarin and saffron, middle notes of tuberose and osmanthus, and base notes of Indian woods and amber. Along with its divine scent, the fragrance is housed in equally indulgent packaging - with the bottle twisted in the infinity symbol with welded metallic circles. Perfection. - Yelena

Marc Jacobs Daisy Eau So Fresh Delight

Fun, fruity, floral and eau so fresh. I have not smelt nor worn the original Marc Jacobs Daisy fragrance, but after quickly falling for this edition, I’m keen to discover all the other Daisy variants as well. What I love about this fragrance is its youthfulness. The pink, gold and aqua daisies that burst out from the cap of the bottle are lively, feminine and flirty, just like the pink juice that hides beneath that extraordinary lid. Blood orange and pink pepper notes mix with raspberry and amber to create the exciting scent. Definitely a daytime fragrance, this perfume is sweet without being overpowering. It’s light yet still powerful enough to linger on the skin until the end of the day. What else can I say other than the fact that Daisy and I are the perfect match. – Liz

Jimmy Choo Exotic EDT

Ah ah ahhhh choooo! While some of the bd team’s noses haven’t been able to smell much this week thanks to a bout of the flu making the rounds, others’ noses were taken on a little fragrance adventure. My little nose simply had to choose Jimmy Choo’s Exotic perfume, and I I can tell you that it was love at first sniff. I was immediately drawn to the packaging, which is a modern interpretation of the iconic Jimmy Choo python print on a fuchsia glass bottle. It screams femininity and luxury. Exotic is a refreshing Eau de Toilette that features fruity notes of blackcurrant and pink grapefruit, which are balanced by a heart of tiger orchid and exotic passion flower and base of patchouli and raspberry. This fragrance is perfect for a night out or if you want to add a little sexiness during the day. And just like his shoes, Jimmy Choo can’t put a foot wrong with this fragrance! - Nerys

Gucci Guilty Limited Edition Pour Homme

Can I just say… I smell bloody amazing. Like a hot boy. A REALLLLYYYYYY hot boy. The sort of dapper young gent that rocks his built, 6'3 frame with as much gusto as his slim-fit Gucci suit. He's got a gorgeous mop of thick brown hair (just BEGGING to have my fingers run through it), along with a devilish grin that reveals perfectly white teeth and sparkling green eyes. Oh and let's not forget the sexy stubble or pert bottom. This chap IS this fragrance. He's sexy and smouldering and just the perfect amount of sweet... just like this juice, which boasts base notes of cedarwood and patchouli which linger on the skin after the fresh top notes of lavender and lemon waft away. The heart of this bad-boy is orange flower, which keeps it sexily androgynous. Well in MY mind it's androgynous. Enough so that I am wearing it every damn day. If I close my eyes I can imagine that hot boy. He's my new imaginary boyfriend. - Kelly
