Antipodes is to be the first New Zealand skincare brand to grace the beauty shelves of iconic Paris department store Le Bon Marché.
Customers called for the permanent return of the brand after experiencing it in-store in a Birchbox pop-up shop last year, where it was showcased as an innovative and fresh international brand.
Elizabeth Barbalich, Antipodes founder and director, says, “The invitation to be included on the beauty shelves of Le Bon Marché permanently is a real coup for Antipodes®. This historic store is regarded as one of the seats of elegance in Paris, which of course is the traditional pinnacle of fashion and beauty in the world.”
Barbalich believes the demand from Parisiennes to stock a green beauty brand is significant.
“I believe our inclusion at this level of retail is a very positive sign of the times. High-end shoppers are now well-represented among those caring for an environmentally friendly lifestyle. But these women are also serious about using high-performance skincare.
“Antipodes means they no longer have to choose between these two passions. We are pioneering this new niche category globally, which is organic and natural skincare with scientific validation of anti-aging performance. That’s something usually only seen in major conventional skincare brands.”
Founded in 1852, Le Bon Marché was the first ever modern department store in the world. Today it sells a wide range of high-end goods, including select international luxury brands.
Antipodes has enjoyed links with France since the brand’s beginning in 2006. It sources its avant-garde pure plant fragrances from Grasse in southern France, and a French translation has long appeared on Antipodes skincare packaging.
