The brand breaking the honey skincare mould

If you’ve been paying any attention to skincare trends, you’ll know Manuka honey is basically considered liquid gold. Everyone from celebrities to experts have sung it’s praises for its moisturising and antibacterial powers, and of course its magic ability to treat and heal eczema and acne. But what differentiates one honey-based skincare range from another, in the sea of brands latching onto its benefits? bdNZ investigates with the arrival of Bees Brilliance to the site.

Going natural with skincare is a move many of us are making, but some brands make wild claims they often can’t live up to. The Bees Brilliance range stands out with the raw ingredients they use, from famous Manuka honey to bee venom and beeswax, plus a phenomenon called ‘Royal Jelly’. By taking advantage of all the goodness bees produce – without harming them – the brand harnesses different benefits and effects, from healing, to moisturising and providing anti-aging effects. The beauty industry’s favourite bee venom sounds scary, but is really just an amazing way to reduce fine lines and wrinkles. Organically collected with no harm to bees, the venom mainly consists of Melittin, which gently stimulates the skin for a natural anti-aging effect. Another stand out is beeswax, renowned for its skin moisturising and soothing properties, next to bee pollen oil, which is packed full of vital nutrients to revive the skin. ‘Royal Jelly’ (or “bee milk”) – white liquid substance bees secrete – also provides nutrients and enhances skin texture. What else can bees provide? The list is practically endless.

The family owned business was founded by Julene and Matthew Cropp, a fourth-generation beekeeper with a passion for saving the bees. Controlling every step of the skincare making process in Nelson, New Zealand, they use ethical methods for collecting ingredients from bees. The brand is also partaking in Bee Aware month – if you purchase any two Bees Brilliance products in September you will receive a complimentary “Bee Friendly” plantable card to help spread wildflowers.
