In support of Equal Pay Day – tomorrow, Friday August 31 – marie claire has brought together 30 Australian retailers to offer 15 per cent off.
August 31 has been chosen as Equal Pay Day because Aussie women need to extend the financial year to this date in order to earn the same annual salary as men; and according to the Workplace Gender Equality Agency, Australian women are on average paid 14.6 per cent less than their male counterparts.
The 15 per cent discount represents the disparity between men and women’s salaries, with marie claire editor Nicky Briger saying: “Women make up half the population, yet are paid 14.6% less than men – a figure that’s barely shifted over the past two decades.
“marie claire has been championing to close the pay gap for 15 years, and while there’s still work to be done, this campaign, supported by some of Australia’s top brands, will raise awareness of this important issue.”
The likes of Benefit, Napoleon Perdis and Sand & Sky are all taking part; and you can find out more information on marie claire’s website.
