Tried & tested: Holiday fragrances

’Tis the season to be merry and bright, and shouldn’t your fragrance match your attitude this holiday season?

Here, BD tries some fragrances that are set to send noses into a spiral this silly season.

EDITOR'S PICK: Carven Le Parfum – Georgie

What it is: Simplicity, freshness, and charm are expressed through this couture scent. A burst of spontaneity and gracefulness are carried by neroli, mandarin blossom, and the delicacy of white hyacinth.
My experience: Light, fresh, clean and floral is exactly how I would describe this summery scent. I first tried it immediately after a shower and to this day, believe that's the perfect time to give it a spritz. Doing this really makes the most of the clean zesty and floral notes, and as you dry, the neroli and mandarin blossom really begin to emerge. It's a very feminine fragrance, a good one for girly girls who love sweet or oriental perfumes and for me, was totally uplifting and charming to wear.

Ariana Grande Moonlight – Tash

What it is: An ultra-feminine fragrance in a cute holographic bottle with lavender cap and fluffy pom pom.
My experience: This scent is fun and flirty, perfect for a day out with the girls that turns into a balmy summer evening of cocktails by the beach. The fragrance has notes of rich black currant, plum, marshmallow and peony with a touch of sandalwood, black amber and vanilla to ground the fragrance. I absolutely love the packaging, but beware, the pom pom induces bouncy dance moves on application. Great to have a sweet feminine fragrance at my fingertips for the festive season.

Shay & Blue Salt Caramel – Stephanie

What it is: An eau de parfum fragrance inspired by Charbonnel et Walter’s sea salt caramel truffles.
My experience: I have been lusting after this fragrance for a while so I was very excited when this landed on my desk. With top notes of liquid caramel and sea salt, heart notes of tonka bean and a base of bourbon vanilla and sandalwood, this scent is an alluring and cultivating blend. This fragrance makes a bold statement, perfect for evening wear as it lingers for hours on the skin.

Versace Eros Pour Femme – Caitlin

What it is: A women’s fragrance with a combination of citrus, fruity and floral notes.
My experience: This fresh scent is perfect for summer as it’s light, enticing and distinctively feminine. With notes of lemon, raspberry and jasmine, it’s perfect for everyday wear and clings on the skin for hours. Plus, the gold embellished bottle looks great on my bathroom shelf.

Thierry Mugler Angel EDT – Laura

What it is: Angel EDT is a fragrance that is familiar, yet uniquely different to the EDP.
My experience:  I know that this iconic fragrance is divisive but I love a refreshing, woody-oriental fragrance – hence this perfume by Thierry Mugler ticked all the boxes! Bergamot and red berries combined with a hint of pink pepper comes first, followed by a delicious wave of subtle praline and berries. Finally, the fragrance dries down with a patchouli-vanilla accord, tempered by cedar. It lingers on the skin all day and is a perfect fragrance for early-evening.

Blue Stratos – Zoë

What it is: A light, masculine men's fragrance.
My experience: I gifted this fragrance to my boyfriend to try, so here is his take: I really liked that this was a really fresh, summery fragrance while still being masculine. The top notes are of a marine feel with grapefruit, bergamot and lemon. After a few hours wear you can then smell the warmer base notes of rosewood, geranium and patchouli.
