The 6 beauty trends that dominated LFW

As London Fashion Week comes to a close, and Milan Fashion week begins, we examine the top beauty trends shown on the catwalks. Expect to see these looks become big trends with consumers in the coming months.

Understated sparkles
Sparkles may be a winter-makeup essential, but expect to see all things bright and glittery dialled back and carried through into the warmer months.

Understated sparkly looks were rife, with Ryan Lo opting for false glitter eyelashes and subtle lips; while Shrimps chose a dusting of lip shimmer offset by a nude face.

At Topshop, Estée Lauder ambassador Lynsey Alexander used acid greens and pink glitter on outer eyes to create 1980’s feel; while M.A.C for Ralph & Russo gave models a subtle silver shadow

With festival season approaching, expect fun and easy touches of glitter to be plentiful.

Bold blush
Forget bronzer, strobing, and contouring — when check colour was used this LFW it was done using blush.

Striking orange blush was seen on the runways at Aadnevik and Paula Knorr, while cheekbones were sculpted using a pink blush at Bora Aksu.

With spring well and truly upon us, you can envisage plenty of consumers switching out their bronzers for a swipe of blush instead.

Bold eyes
Bold eyes are back in vogue, with designers choosing unapologetically heavy handed eyeliner and block eyeshadow over the demure, understated looks of seasons’s passed.

At Marc Jacobs, Diane Kendal used a heavy black winged eyeliner, similar to the rock’n’roll eye Charlotte Tilbury created for models at Versace. Sharp wings were honed by Pat McGrath at Tom Ford; and bold metallic red eyes with minimal mascara were created at Sadie Williams by Lucy Bridge for M.A.C.

This easy day-to-night look means consumers now have their after-work drinks makeup sorted.

Under-eye liner
Statement eyes also went below the lower-lash line, with backstage makeup artists giving models bold, under-eye liner.

Nars ambassador Andrew Galli flipped the winged eye upside down for Isa Arfen; and make-up in JW Anderson’s show featured heavy kohl on the lower lashline.

M.A.C’s Lucy Bridge combined the sparkle trend and lower lash, by using purple and green glitter on the lower lid.

Schoolgirl beauty
For hair, expect to see plenty of braids, low-ponytails and flat roots.

Championing schoolgirl braids was Sadie Williams, while Eudon Choi chose unkempt bobs and centre-partings with low ponytails. The looks in London come fresh off the back of Monsieur Gavriel’s NYFW show, where the show’s throwback scrunchies made headlines.

No makeup makeup
This look has been popular for a while now, making the look more of a movement than a trend.
The no makeup look has dominated Fashion Week’s in London and New York; and if you’ll remember, dominated the catwalks here in Sydney, too.

Insta-beauty might be on the way out, as the likes of Burberry, Richard Malone and Margaret Howell showcased bare skin, flushed cheeks and no mascara.
