Tried & tested: Mum and baby

There are some excellent products on the market that will make any mother’s job a little easier, from baby shampoos to treatments for pregnant bellies.

And here at BD, we have quite a few mums in the office. These are some of the best and most useful products they’re loving at the moment.

BIODERMA Atoderm Intensive - Kim
What it is: A two-in-one soothing and dermo-strengthening treatment to restore healthy, comfortable skin.
My experience: With two kids that have atopic eczema I found the Bioderma Atoderm Intensive to work really well for both of them. The cream was thick and rich, which helped to restore hydration quickly. My three daughters' skin was instantly calmed and soothed and it almost immediately reduced her urge to scratch. Using it on a daily basis on her skin for a handful of days helped to clear up her eczema outbreak and drastically hydrate her skin.

Aveeno® Baby Calming Comfort® Bath - Alicia
What it is: A baby bath wash that contains vanilla and lavender to cleanse, calm and relax babies before bedtime.
My experience: The Aveeno Baby Calming Comfort Bath is made from natural oat extract which is great for my daughter's sensitive skin. It is tear free, has no added parabens, no added phthalates and is hypo-allergenic which means it's fine to use for babies and children of all skin types. It is scented with lavender and vanilla which helped to calm and relax my daughter after bathing in it while nourishing her skin with the oat extract which is soothing.

Palmolive Naturals Mild & Sensitive Hypoallergenic Body Wash - Tamara
What it is: A dermatologically tested, non-irritating body wash.
My experience: The Palmolive Naturals Mild & Sensitive Body Wash is a great all-rounder for the family. It is for mild and sensitive skin and contains no parabens, dyes, phthalates, alcohol, silicone or soap which means that the formula is non-irritating and can be used on anyone from baby to adulthood. The large pump bottle is great to leave in the shower and helps with ease of use and the fragrance is light. Our whole family tried this one out and we were all pleasantly surprised because it is rare that we can all use the same product due to differing skin types and conditions. On top of all the great features of this body wash, the bottle is 100% recyclable.

Manicare Soft Touch Baby Nail Clipper - Bianca
What it is: A rotatory clipper designed to use with ease to trim little nails in different directions.
My experience: These nail clippers are specifically designed for little people and feature a soft touch ergonomic grip handle and inbuilt catcher. The product is super easy and safe to use with a small slit for the nail to push through without risk of cuts to fingers. You can also rotate the blade to desired angles. I would highly recommend for first time mums like myself who are navigating the new world of baby care!

Key Sun Zinke Clear Zinke for Babies & Toddlers Roll-On Lotion - Karen
What it is: An SPF50+ roll-on lotion that is ideal for daily use, with a light texture that is easily applied.
My experience: This easy to use roll on application is so easy for a mum like me on the go. It literally goes everywhere with me in my handbag so I always have my kids protected. I love the 50 SPF protection and four-hour water resistance. When applying the clear zinke it’s quite thick which I love because I feel that extra coverage and less product having to be used so it lasts a lot longer.
My little ones can be fussy at times so the fact that this clear zinke is fragrance free is also a big tick. Even with the kids in and out of the water non stop on a summer’s day I feel they are really well protected.

Biologi Bf Hydration Body Serum - Mindy
What it is: A hydrating body serum that leaves the skin feeling smooth.
My experience: This oil type formula came out quick thick, which made it very easily absorbed into my skin. I also loved that I could put it on my body but still put clothing on immediately as it had a matte finish. It felt very indulgent and something I looked forward to applying in the morning and again at night time.

Bio-Oil - Poppy
What it is: A specialist skincare oil designed to help improve the appearance of scars and stretch marks.
My experience: I love that the oil whilst hydrating, is not too wet on the skin. I could see after a couple of days it made a difference to the hydration of my skin and also the tone. I have also been using on my stretch marks and whilst they are still there, they do appear to be less obvious.

Clémence Organics Baby + Mum Balm - Rose
What it is: A natural and organic balm to calm baby’s sensitive skin.
My experience: This is such a lovely multi-purpose balm and should be in every nursery/nappy bag. Firstly, it’s completely natural and organic, which is a huge plus as I’m very wary of what I use on Bub. The balm is so beautifully soft and melts into the skin without feeling waxy or artificial. It has been perfect for nappy changes, knowing Bub is comfortably protected from nappy rash and it has instantly nourished any patches of dry skin. I’ve also been using the balm post-breastfeeding, which has helped a lot. I also really like the sturdy jar it comes in, which is important to know I can throw this in the nappy bag without risking any product-leakage!

Weleda Calendula Nappy Change Cream - Alice
What it is: A certified natural and organic cream formulated for use on the delicate skin in the nappy area.
My experience: I’ve loved every Weleda product I’ve tried and this is no exception. I was instantly drawn to the gorgeous floral scent, which lingers a little on the skin and has a really calming effect. The cream itself is rich and is the perfect protective barrier for nappy changes, without any nasties. The skin-friendly formula enriched with organic calendula, chamomile extract and almond oil, feels so nourishing on the skin and gently soothes any irritation and redness. It just glides easily on little one’s skin and leaves it feeling soft and moisturised. The tube is also great as you can control how much product you need to come out – a little goes a long way.

Synergie Skin Mum & Bub Pack - Rachel
What it is: A limited-edition pack specially created for expectant mums and their precious bubs.
My experience: As an expectant mum, I was so excited to try this Mum & Bub duo! The packaging is my favourite – it’s so beautiful and certainly pulled on my heart strings. I’ve been using the DeStress calming oil every day on my growing belly and have noticed how much softer and moisturised my skin feels. It has been a lovely, calming night ritual for me after a day at work and running around. I pump a few drops on my hand, warm it up a little between my palms, and relax as I massage the lovely-smelling oil over my skin. I have also been using the Occlusiderm over a small patch of eczema and was pleasantly surprised to see how much it helped soothe the skin and heal the raw itchiness. Will definitely be keeping this anti-inflammatory, healing balm handy once the baby arrives to repair and protect against nappy rash too! Definitely a great gift for any mum.

Green People Organic Babies Silent Night Pack - Dragana
What it is: An organic gift set for babies that includes: Soothing Baby Salve Lavender and Baby Wash & Shampoo Lavender.
My experience: What a beautiful range of organic baby products to use on my precious little ones. What I love most about the Baby wash & Shampoo is that it’s really gentle but washes  well and has a lovely soft scent leaving the skin and hair so clean and smelling divine. The soothing baby salve is so soft and really easy to apply, with noticeable improvement to irritation after only one application. I love that there are beautiful products like this on the market that allow me to give my babies only the best when it comes to choosing products to use on their skin.

sebamed Liquid Face & Body Wash - Hayley
What it is: A liquid wash for face and body for people with sensitive and problematic skin.
My experience: This face and body wash is great for people who have skin that is easily irritated as it is a mild formula that has a pH value of 5.5 which is the standard pH value for normal skin. The liquid is green in colour which is unusual for a body wash however I did find that by being a coloured liquid, that it helped me to see the product when I was dispensing so I could see exactly how much I was using. The 1L bottle comes with a pump at the top so it is easy to use in the shower and it is soap free so it didn’t cause any sort of irritation for myself or my little one.

Rock & Ruddle Boar Bristle Rabbits Brush - Baby - Molly
What it is: A baby hairbrush that has an extra soft white tuft of boar bristle.
My experience: My little one and I love this brush. It is so soft on my daughter’s hair and doesn’t pull or tug on it once, making hair-brushing time a really easy and calming experience. The traditional style of this brush design is great – yay to a sturdy handle! – and we are both obsessed with the cute rabbit print, which looks lovely left out on our dressing table. The 100 per cent natural boar bristles glides beautifully and gently through the hair, from the scalp to the ends. It also helps distribute the hair’s oils down each shaft and by the end of brushing, you can really notice the extra shine and glossiness to the hair. It’s a must-have for every household!
