Kelly Baker launches new beauty website

Editor of beauty and fashion for Nine Entertainment Co. Kelly Baker has today launched her own beauty venture: The Beauty Insider. 

The Beauty Insider is a website dedicated to providing an insider, get-it-here-first perspective on hot new trends, cult products, life changing treatments and best beauty buys. 

BD chatted with Baker to find out more about the project and what inspired her to launch The Beauty Insider. 

You honed your journalistic craft in newspapers and magazines, what made you turn to digital?

I started in newspapers when I was 17, but I always knew magazines were for me. My heart still belongs to magazines I must admit, but digital is the direction we’re moving so it seems sensible to hone my skills in that area; and, to launch my new project in that space. Plus, we’re so time-poor that digital can really work. It’s right there at your fingertips 24-7.

What has inspired your latest project?

I have worked in the area of beauty and lifestyle for many, many years and I’ve learned an enormous amount along the way. I feel like I know what women want, and also what they don’t want when it comes to these topics. It’s a very tight market and some of my close friends are already there doing an awesome job; but I still see a slight gap in the market and it’s one that suits me perfectly. Also, I’ve wanted to launch my own project for years … I just kept getting offered awesome magazine roles that I couldn’t turn down and so I was too busy.

I’m still too busy to be honest but I’ve come to see I always will be. So if I want to do it the time is now.

What is going to be the focus of your website?

My site is going to be very service-driven. It will provide easy to absorb, quick, solid, trustworthy information detailing new products, treatments, services.

How can beauty and lifestyle brands work with you?

I’ll have so many opportunities. My audience will be wanting to know about all things new so beauty and lifestyle brands can get in touch and I will spread the word. I’m also looking at curated content (clearly marked of course – I am a journalist, not an influencer) and advertising too.

We’ll have competitions, offers and so on too. I’m getting excited just writing about it!
