Meet BEAUTYDIRECTORY’s new content producer

BEAUTYDIRECTORY is excited to kick off the new year by welcoming our new content producer, Sarah Bristow. Hailing from Brisbane, Bristow has had previous experience writing for the likes of Esquire UK and map creative + map digital.

Here, we sit down with the talented writer to discover more about her career path, what attracted her to the position, and what the role will involve.

How did you get your start in the media industry?
I discovered my passion for prose while at high school in Brisbane, which led me to study a Bachelor of Journalism at the University of Queensland. During my uni days, in order to figure out exactly what I wanted to do within media, I took on internships at a variety of different companies, from stints in PR companies to newspapers such as The Courier Mail.

Where did your career progress from there?
One such internship was with local Brisbane creative agency, map creative + map digital. After a three month placement in the editorial department, I began freelancing with them, before being offered the position of editorial assistant upon graduation. I wrote for the company’s publication, map magazine, as well as its online lifestyle guide, The Weekend Edition. After 18 months at map, I decided to indulge an urge to travel and I spent the next six months exploring Europe, finishing my trip with a six-week internship at Esquire UK in Hearst’s London offices.

What attracted you to the position at BEAUTYDIRECTORY?
After returning to Brisbane, I was eager for a new adventure and a move to a big city like Sydney seemed like the natural next step. I was excited to re-enter the world of journalism and was interested in working for a company that was young and fun with room for growth, which is exactly what I saw in BEAUTYDIRECTORY.

Have you always been interested in the world of beauty?
As a consumer, yes, of course - I think any woman who says otherwise is probably lying! There’s a glamorous allure to the world of beauty, and it’s appealed to me from a young age. I was probably inspired by watching my mother primp for various parties in my childhood - she would wear bold lipsticks and opulent perfumes like Yves Saint Laurent’s Opium that would leave a trail of scent behind her.

What will your role involve?
My role at BEAUTYDIRECTORY will involve assisting editor Yelena Fairfax in writing content and keeping media and industry groups up-to-date with the latest news. I will also be crafting EDMs, organising the media directory, and covering events in the beauty world.
