Insti's new feature takes cues from Snapchat

Taking cues from competitors is common in business, and is exactly what Instagram has done with its most recent tech development. Taking inspiration from direct competitor Snapchat, Instagram has just unveiled its latest feature Instagram Live.

The new addition incorporates live video and photos that delete after being viewed, as well as welcoming the ability to video chat. The platform announced the development via its blog, commenting: “Live video on Instagram Stories helps you connect with your friends and followers right now. When you’re done, your live story disappears from the app so you can feel more comfortable sharing anything, anytime.”

It is not the first time Instagram has taken cues from Snapchat, with the app recently welcoming a Stories addition to the site that mimics the latter platform. The feature has already proven successful with 100 million people viewing Stories every day.

But this time around, Instagram CEO Kevin Systrom has given credit. He tells TechCrunch: “No one looks down at someone for adopting something that is so obviously great for presenting a certain type of information. And I think what you see is that every company looks around and adopts the best of the best formats or state-of-the-art technology.”
