Michelle Phan hit with lawsuit

It seemed like Michelle Phan could do no wrong. With constant news of more successes for the beauty vlogger, Phan has hit her first road block with the beauty sensation being slapped with a lawsuit.

Ultra Records and Ultra International Music Publishing are filing a suit against Phan for copyright infringement. The electronic dance music label represents some of the world's biggest DJ names including Calvin Harris, Steve Aoki and David Guetta.

The label is alleging that Phan has profited from using a host of its artists' songs in her videos without a licence. As an example, it points to Phan's YouTube video Night Life Favorites that has been viewed 1.4 million times and features a song by their artist Kaskade.

Ultra says Phan was told that she would need to obtain a licence to continue using their songs in her videos, but that she did not do this, according to Reuters. The lawsuit would see Phan prevented from using any music by Ultra artists in the future, with the label claiming damages of up to $US150,000 per case of misused copyright.

While Ultra is clearly unhappy with Phan, the same can not be said for Kaskade, who tweeted: "You're awesome. You've turned millions of ppl on to my music. Which, ironically, I cannot say for my label. Summary: I'm not suing @Michelle4Phan + Ultra Records isn't my lap dog. I can't do much about the lawsuit except voice my support for her. I find that @Michelle4Phan has great taste in music *ahem*, and knows secrets on how to make my eyes really POP. What's not to like?"

Phan reportedly made more than $US5 million from her vlog in 2013. Her most popular videos have had more than 50 million views.
