The life-saving educational initiative

Thanks to our sun-worshipping ways, the Australian population is facing ever-rising rates of skin cancer. Our dangerous affection for a bronzed glow is a problem Australian company Banana Boat are trying to remedy, with the release of a new initiative that educates children about sun safety.

One million children aged between six and 12 will be targeted in the next three years. The program aims to teach kids about skincare at a time when their skin is the most vulnerable to sun damage.

Lessons will be age-appropriate and presented in a fun, relevant manner in an effort to ensure kids retain as much information as possible. A cartoon crew called ‘Serena & The Sun Safe Gang’ is just one of the tools incorporated in the program to appeal to its young audience.

Aligned with the national curriculum, the program allows teachers to easily access downloadable resources. In addition, a dedicated website includes lesson plans, worksheets and information sheets for both students and parents.
